Timnas Islandia membatalkan sesi latihan di Stadion Sultan Agung, Bantul, pada Senin 8 Januari 2018. Mereka lebih memilih pelesir ke Candi Prambanan.
Muncul sebuah pertanyaan, kenapa skuat Islandia tak mau berlatih pada hari kedua di Indonesia. Padahal, ini bisa jadi momentum bagi skuat Islandia untuk beradaptasi dengan kondisi cuaca di Indonesia.
Kepala Sesi Pemuda dan Olahraga Dispora Bantul, Sapto Priyono, menyatakan batalnya Islandia berlatih karena kondisi rumput Stadion Sultan Agung yang buruk.
Sapto menyatakan rumput di Stadion Sultan Agung terlalu tebal dan dianggap manajemen Timnas Islandia tak layak untuk dijadikan venue latihan.
"Perwakilan Timnas Islandia sudah meninjau rumput di Stadion Sultan Agung. Mereka menilai terlalu tebal," ujar Sapto.
Ditegaskan Sapto, pihaknya langsung bergerak untuk memenuhi kebutuhan skuat Islandia. "Suatu kehormatan bagi kami bisa memberikan fasilitas ke tim peserta Piala Dunia. Semoga, besok mereka sudah bisa latihan jelang lawan Indonesia," kata Sapto.
